The students helped to raise both the Aboriginal and Australian flags and heard about this year's NAIDOC Week theme 'Heal Country'.
Following the assembly, the students then participated in an ochre painting activity with the school's Aboriginal Liaison Officer, Marcus Mundy.
In preparation for the day's activities, some of the students helped to crush the ochre rocks into the dust needed to make the paint.
It was fantastic to see the students so involved with the process of creating their art, from creating the paint right through to the finished product.
Meanwhile, the students have hit the ground running in Term Three.
All classes have settled straight back into their learning routines.
Learning through play is a powerful way for our younger students to learn social skills, language and simple numeracy and literacy skills.
Work experience-type activities offer our older students the same hands-on opportunities for learning while being future focussed and age-appropriate.
