About the book
The Ava Show by former Kangaroo Valley author Cecily Anne Paterson tells the story of energetic, sociable Ava whose big plans for athletics, her 12th birthday party and hanging out with best friend Josie are thrown into disarray when COVID-19 hits Australia's shores.
Ava and her family must head into lockdown, put up with each other while they work and learn at home and try not to run out of toilet paper.
The birth of family dog Chloe's puppies makes life with no friends bearable, but when Ava's irresponsible ways put one of the puppies in danger, lockdown pressures and the pandemic seem all too much to deal with.
The Ava Show is a story about friends, family and lockdown stress-with a delightfully adorable side helping of gratitude and puppies. The fourth novel in the Kangaroo Valley School Series, published by Wombat Books, The Ava Show is written for 9-12 year olds.
The Ava Show will be published by Wombat Books on September 15.
A book about a pandemic
A few months after the first NSW pandemic lockdown, when it appeared that 'COVID was over' (at least in every state apart from Victoria) author Cecily Anne Paterson decided to write about how it felt to have to stay at home for so many weeks.
Like most of us, she didn't foresee that 2021 would bring the Delta variant and longer, harder periods of lockdown. She was looking forward to an 'in-person' event for the launch of 'The Ava Show', only to find that once again, gatherings were not allowed.
