With her two primary school aged children and two-year-old twins by her her side, Melissa Johnson has turned their family home into a fairy light delight.
After a particularly hard day of homeschooling her older kids, while also entertaining her 'twinadoes', Melissa said the decision to decorate the house was a bit of a snap one to try and lift the mood.
"The school holidays were shaping up to be a little dull being unable to visit friends or family or take a holiday during lockdown so we've put thousands of fairy lights on to light up the dark times and bring a little happiness to the young ones," she said.
"The older children helped plan the display - they pointed, we climbed- and the lights were all put up in a single (long) day."
The lights are all powered by solar which allows younger children to be able to enjoy the view before an early bedtime. Melissa encouraged everyone to come along and see them before daylight savings kicks in on Sunday, October 3.
"Our own twin toddlers are much too young to stay awake long enough in summer, they fall asleep before the light displays of Christmas are turned on but they have been able to dance in their very own light wonderland this year," Melissa said.
Melissa said the reactions from the community has been heartwarming. They've ranged from confusion - has mum cracked at last? - to pure joy. Plenty of parents pushing prams on a warm night have smiled as their toddler have yelled out 'fairy lights!'
The Ulladulla mum is no stranger to spreading joy. Last lockdown the family decorated trees with stuffed bears for the neighbourhood children to enjoy a lockdown teddy bear hunt.
"Not knowing how difficult Christmas 2021 might be once Delta spreads in our community we decided to delight in the children's faces now, just in case," Melissa said.
