Many people use the shortcut across the top of the waterfall from Simmons Drive to Nelson Drive but the fence prevents them from going the track.
"This has been a track in regular use for the last 50 years by a lot of people that live in the subdivision on the north side of that reserve," one resident said.
A spokesperson for council explained why a fence was put on the track.
"Earlier this year council was made aware of an informal narrow track in bushland that runs along the creek between Simmons Drive and Nelson Drive, Ulladulla," the spokesperson said.
"Council undertook an inspection of the area and deemed that there was an unacceptable safety risk to the community so barriers were installed to prevent access to the site while still allowing the creek to flow.
"Council does not encourage the community to take the shortcut across the top of the waterfall due to the risks of slipping on the rocks and using it during periods of high flow."
The residents still remain unhappy,
"A total waste of money" and "an eyesaw" is how many people sum up the fence.
Other people support the move made by council, suggesting it would stop people from hurting themselves.
A suggestion was made that council makes the track safer for people to use and then there would be no need for a fence.
