With several RATS still recovering from illness and injury, there were as many walkers as runners heading off from the Burrill Lake Lions Park, for a Sunday hit-out. The 6 walkers headed south and walked along the new gravel path, which follows the highway, all the way to Lake Tabourie. They didn’t quite make the whole distance, turning at the 3.5km mark for a pleasant 7km morning walk.
The runners headed into the bush and along the shores of Burrill Lake, following Lake Road. A couple turned off early for an 8km circuit and others completed distances up to 12km. Nearly everyone headed to Native to sit in the sunshine and enjoy a well-earned breakfast and coffee.
RATS in the field:
Saturday, September 16 – Merimbula parkrun (5km): Don Miller headed south to test himself on this beautiful, but precarious, parkrun. Some of the run travels along a narrow boardwalk, which sits over oyster leases, often with runners heading in both directions. Despite this, Don set a new age group record (M80-85), with a very quick 29.17, also coming 14th outright.
Sunday, September 17 – Blackmores Sydney Half Marathon (21.1km): Nicola Rabbett ran in the picturesque, but testing, Sydney Half Marathon and did herself proud, with a sub-2-hour effort, crossing the line in 1.57.29.
Next Sunday – No Watch Run, Burrill Lake – September 24: Meet at the Lions Park pergolas, at Burrill Lake, at 6.30am, for the RATS annual No Watch Run – all welcome. The distance will be between 5 and 10km. It will be a slightly adjusted course this year, taking in some of the new sub-division
The idea is to estimate how long it will take you to run the distance, which will be advised on the morning. Then everyone runs the course WITHOUT their watches. The person closest to their estimate, wins.
