In addition to the bell, the baptism register containing more than 32 years of records has also gone missing during the historic churches final weekend at Milton.
Reverend Tony Davies said the entire Church congregation has been devastated by the news, with plans underway to install the 50 plus year old bell at Ulladulla.
“We are very upset by the news, it is just a low act,” he said.
“The bell has been a key part of the church for more than 50 years, rung at hundreds to thousands of weddings, baptisms and church services.”
The bell was installed in the 1960’s, near the front door of the 145 year old church.
It is estimated to be worth thousands of dollars, with the crime reported to the Shoalhaven Local Area Command police on Monday, February 27.
It was stolen between the hours of 6pm Sunday night to 9am Monday morning.
The baptism register recorded all baptisms from 1970 to 2002, holding importance as an historical record and as a tool to renew lost baptism certificates.
“It is really disappointing following a great weekend of celebrations,” Rev Davies said.
“A wedding on Friday, the community celebration on Saturday and a tremendous service of closure on Sunday then we discover these things after,” he said.
“If you have or know anyone with these items, we just want them returned in a safe place and we will forgive.”
