There’s no cause for concern – Endeavour Energy has been surveying powerlines as part of its pre-summer bushfire safety preparations.
The surveys are designed to prevent bushfires started by the electricity network by identifying where equipment needs to be repaired or trees pruned.
A spokesperson said by carrying out the surveys at this time of the year, Endeavour Energy would have enough time to undertake any required maintenance before the start of the bushfire season in October.
A number of people contacted the Times last week to report a helicopter over the local area.
Endeavour Energy is responsible for looking after more than 20,000km of overhead powerlines.
It says the use of helicopters reduces the time taken to survey powerlines but also allows inspections in otherwise inaccessible areas.
Specialised helicopter crews use high-resolution cameras to film the powerlines from approximately 300 metres above the ground.
The filming permits a more thorough inspection as the footage can be extensively reviewed after the surveys.
In other areas the use of the helicopter has given rise to complaints about noise – particularly on weekends.
