After more than 140 years of ministry, Milton-Ulladulla Uniting Church decided to sell their church to shift their focus onto their Ulladulla location.
Close to a hundred people watched the auction proceedings, but it was too many onlookers and not enough buyers said Milton Uniting Church Reverend Tony Davies.
“There were a few buyers around, but none prepared to pay the price,” he said.
“We will continue to look for buyers, and we will continue to be open to all serious offers.”
An increase in costs and the need to be more visible were reasons behind the sale.
“Its obviously a difficult decision to make,” Rev Davies said.
“There is a lot of tradition and story linked with the site for many in the community, but we realise its the best decision for the people.”
“The sale will enable us to develop our Ulladulla site.”
Planning is underway for an open day on Saturday, February 25, when the community can share their memories of the Milton Church.
The final service will be held on Sunday, February 26.
