Fourteen years have passed since the inauguration of the group and celebrations were in order.
Happiness and sadness were part of the day when recalling those who were no longer with the group, and gratitude for the comfort and friendship is extended to one and all who meet each month.
Wednesday, September 11 will forever be a day to remember for members who met at Ulladulla Wharf.
What a morning, and how great it was.
Marine Rescue officer, Terry Campion, guided the ladies upstairs to be seated and proceeded to explain the purpose of the organization, the necessary qualifications of members, equipment and use of.
Keeping in radio contact with other units, police, monitoring departure and arrival of local yachts, fishermen and anything that moves on the water, comes in the line of duty.
It was interesting to be shown what is hidden in pockets and Velcro areas of their life jackets - all necessary emergency equipment is right at hand.
Now, to the exciting part of the morning. Three by three, the ladies were introduced to gem number one, new boat Warden 11. It was open sea, open sky.
What a thrill! Zooming up the coast, viewing Pigeon House Mountain, as Captain Cook would have.
Thermal imaging was shown and explained and members were having the time of their lives.
Three cheers for members of Marine Rescue and hats off to their enthusiasm and devotion to duty.
May all who reside here, and visitors, be thankful for their presence and, keep in mind, donations are always needed, to help them look after the community. Many thanks for a memorable experience.
The flavour of the sea continued when the ladies wandered down to the restaurant on the harbour and enjoyed a seafood lunch, while discussing events of the morning.
The next meeting to be held at Kendall Cottage is at 1.30pm, on September 26.
Please bring afternoon tea.
