The local students showed all the time spent riding the waves in the local area can translate to some serious skills on the snow.
Ulladulla Public
Ulladulla Public School students Thomas Cunningham, Max Boland and Gus Boland represented the school in the snowboard team, competing in the SnowboardX and Snowboard GIANT SLALOM under ideal conditions at Blue Cow and Guthega.
The weather changed overnight with 15cm of new snow and blustery winter conditions for the ski events.
Jackson Cunningham, the only skier from Ulladulla Public school, competed in the moguls and ski GIANT SLALOM.
Despite the small team, all boys were successful in progressing to the NSW State Championships to be held at Thredbo later this month.
Other schools progressing from this region were Snowy Mountains Grammar, and Jindabyne Central School.
Considering these schools get to practise for sport every week, the accomplishment of our local kids was no mean feat.
Shoalhaven Anglican
A team of eight skiers from Shoalhaven Anglican School competed in the recent snowsports competition at Perisher.
This year the school had students from Year 5 to Year 12 competing in the Alpine and Skier Cross events, with some impressive team and individual performances recorded.
Tayla Anderson Phillips and Regan Strong compete for the first time in the Division 4 ski events and did the school proud with some great race times.
Caitlin Jones excelled in the Division 3 Skier Cross, taking the Bronze medal and a place on the podium and securing an invite to the State Titles.
The Division 1 Girls team comprising of Jessica Nichol Ashton, Maiya Edmondson and Tamasin Jones also won through to the State level, with Tamasin taking out fourth overall in the Skier Cross in this year’s event.
The Division 1 Boys Team of Byron Herring and Rohin Edmondson did the school proud again this year with a State invite in Skier Cross Event.
Byron proved to be our most consistent athlete taking out fifth place in the Skier Cross and fourth in the very competitive Alpine event at the Southern titles.
Ulladulla High
Ulladulla High school sent along some talents students to compete in the snowsports competition.
The Ulladulla High riders rode well and were pretty happy with their runs, despite some icy ruts in the giant slalom course and tough competition in the boarder cross.
In fact, they rode so well that Ulladulla High pretty much cleaned it up at the presentation J.
The Division 3 female team of Saskia Auer, Felicia Auer and Rubie Reents managed to get second in giant slalom and first in boarder cross.
The individual results in giant slalom were Rubie ninth, Felicia fourth and Saskia third.
Individually Max came 19th in giant slalom and 16th in boarder cross.
In Division 2 (year 9-10), Blake Wade got 17th in boarder cross and then gained a 14th in giant slalom.
The Division 1 representatives were Courtney Green and Sophia Sotriffer.
In ski cross Courtney finished 23rd and Sophia 38th with a team result of 13th.
The girls went on to compete in the ski giant slalom finishing 19th and 26th respectively.
All together, Ulladulla High had a fab day and clearly proved itself as a regional snowboarding power.
A further congratulations to Courtney Green, Rubie Reents, Nathan Meredith, Max Cunningham, Liam Wood, Blake Wade, Saskia Auer and Felicia Auer who have been invited to compete at the NSW State Snowsports competition.
Milton Public
Nathan 16th in giant slalom and 11th in boarder cross while Liam had a cracker of a day and came 2nd in giant slalom and 1st in boarder cross.
It was a clean sweep for Milton Public School at the snowboarding, with Tina Taylor and Jesse Wood each taking out gold medals in the boarder cross and the giant slalom.
In the skiing events, Shannon Meredith and Isabella Pakes were a team while Lucinda Pakes entered as an individual in the skiier cross and alpine events.
Although they didn't receive any medals they were very competitive on the day, especially considering this was their first time in the events.
The school would like to wish good luck to Tina and Jesse at the state event later in the month.
The Division 3 boys team of Liam Wood, Nathan Meredith and Max Cunningham came third in the giant slalom and second in the boarder cross.
In the ski cross Elissa Cassidy and Zoe Cunningham finished 42nd and 43rd with a team result of 17th.
In the boarder cross it was Rubie 12th, Felicia third and Saskia managed a surprising first.
During last week five students represented Milton Public School at the Regional level of Snowsports at Perisher.
