The Marine Rescue Ulladulla was destroyed by a fire on October 6, 2013, but the organisation has continued its work.
During a visit to the Marine Rescue Ulladulla base Mr Tannos said he understood and supported the frustration of local members about the time taken to start building the new unit headquarters.
“I take my hat off to all the management and members of Marine Rescue Ulladulla for being vigilant throughout the last 10 months,” Mr Tannos said.
“The continuing execution by Ulladulla’s volunteers of professional operations and duties from within challenging and restricted premises is highly commendable.”
His praise was echoed by Illawarra Regional Controller Bruce Mitchell.
“I would like to thank the community and businesses of Ulladulla for the way that they have supported the unit, also the members of the unit for being able to maintain operations in not so ideal conditions, but after seeing the plans for the new base, I am sure it will be something that the members and the community will be very proud of,” Mr Mitchell said.
The men visited the Marine Rescue Ulladulla as part of the southern region tour, reviewing a number of issues including member welfare, administration, future applications of advanced technology and aerial improvements to improve transmission efficiency.
Unit Commander Ken Lambert said members welcomed the visit by Mr Tannos.
“He expressed his encouragement during his visit, and he also wanted to extend it to all members for a job well done working under difficult circumstances in the temporary premises,” Mr Lambert said.
“Stacey has shown a keen interest and is doing what he can to get the new base up and running.
“Without his help and guidance we wouldn't be nearly as advanced with preparations for the rebuild, which hopefully will be commencing very soon.
“With regard to our current premises, Coates Hire Ulladulla have been invaluable with their generous provision of the accommodation for our unit for almost a year now,” Mr Lambert said.
