The state government is calling for comment on its draft Regional Boating Plan for the Shoalhaven and Illawarra region, which includes recommendations for pontoon-style berthing, boat storage facilities and additional trailer parking at Ulladulla Harbour.
Clive Cross has been vocal about the need for recreational boating facilities at the harbour for many years and has teamed up with Ulladulla and Districts Community Forum member Jan Shalhoub to lobby for funding.
Mrs Shalhoub said a sub-committee of the forum had been formed to work with Shoalhaven City Council on attracting government funds for the facility.
She advised supporters to read the plan online and provide feedback on the proposal before September 14.
“The more people that support the plan, the more likely we are to attract funding,” Mrs Shalhoub said.
“The government has highlighted many of the issues that have been raised by the community in recent years.”
Mr Cross believes Ulladulla needs safer boat storage and berthing facilities in the harbour for local and visiting vessels.
He said the government planned to spend $14 million over the next five years on recreational facilities throughout the state and he hoped about $1 million would be made available for Ulladulla.
Shoalhaven City Council already has plans drawn up for a 20-berth mooring facility on the southern side of the harbour, with access via Wason Street, Ulladulla.
The pair urged people to have their say and throw their support behind the concept by logging on to www.transport.nsw.gov.au and searching for the Regional Boating Plan.
