Her husband was also in injured in the deadly crash, which left 20 other tourists wounded, and has been taken to a remote hospital near Nairobi.

Olga and Richard King were on board the overland truck that crashed through guard rails in Kenya's Narok Country, about two hours west of Nairobi, and rolled into a river bed.

The couple, from Ormond in Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs, were in Africa on a safari holiday.

Mrs King's niece, Shelley Lakin, said relatives in Australia were shocked and heartbroken after being told of the tragic death on Sunday night.

Mrs King, aged in her 60s, was a mother of three and a grandmother to five girls. Born in Poland, she migrated to Australia where she married Richard.

"She was the most loving person," Ms Lakin said. "She gave you the best hugs, and really filled a room with her presence."

Ms Lakin also remembered her aunt's "big, loud voice and lovely, bright personality".

She said the family was trying to arrange for Mr King to be brought back to Australia as soon as possible.

A spokesman from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said officials were offering consular assistance to the families of those involved in the crash.

Officials from the high commission in Nairobi were also helping several other Australians involved in the accident, the department said.

The Melbourne-based tour company, Intrepid Travel, has confirmed another Australian - a man also aged in his 60s - was killed in the crash, while 20 other tourists, from Australia, Germany, Kenya, Switzerland, the US and Britain, were injured.

Intrepid Travel's managing director, James Thornton, said the company's first concern was helping those affected and their friends and families.

"Senior managers from our operations team in Kenya are assisting passengers and staff involved," he said.

"Intrepid Travel's co-founder Geoff Manchester will be departing for Nairobi today to provide support and assistance for travellers and our ground team."

Intrepid Travel said in a statement that the tourists had started their group tour on September 6 and were travelling between Kenya and Tanzania at the time of the accident.

The accident occurred near Narok, while the truck was travelling between Nairobi and Kisi.

Intrepid Travel said police at the scene suggested a tyre blow-out "is likely to have been caused by something on the road, rather than due to poor tyre conditions".

"Other passengers have required hospital treatment for a range of injuries," the tour company said.
