A committee was formed last Tuesday night, led by president Jan McKay who has attracted support from more than 200 local ladies since mooting the idea last month.
Jan’s dream is to have a group of women who share a love of hammering, sawing and building items, as well as restoring furniture and creating things to help others in the community.
The shed would also be a place for like-minded women to gather and share their wisdom and stories.
Jan said she was thrilled the group had formed a committee and has welcomed interested ladies to the first meeting on Friday November 21 at 12.30pm at the Dunn Lewis Centre.
“I’m so excited that it has taken off - it has happened so fast,” she said.
First on the committee’s agenda will be raising funds to pay rent on a shed.
“We have been offered two shed, but we are holding off until we can get some money in the bank,” Jan said.
“We will be fundraising over the next few months before we open the doors.
“One of the first things we’ll be doing is having a sausage sizzle at Bunnings.
“I’m sure the members will have other ideas.”
Jan is the founding president, and she is joined on the committee by secretary Liz Carpenter and treasurer Marilyn McDougall.
“Thanks to all the eager women who attended the meeting and joined the committee.
“We have a strong following of dedicated enthusiastic girls.
“lt will be hard work but we women can manage that,” Jan concluded.
