The meeting is on Friday, January 23, just two days before Australia Day, and it is expected that members will reflect the occasion by wearing bush and colonial dress.
The program for this year is still under development, but will start with an ever popular picnic in the Park in February with a range of bus and day trips, and activities closer to home throughout the year, including group dining, sporting events and further picnics.
Members will be invited to contribute ideas for the activities program at the January meeting.
The major event of the year will be a tour to the Murray River and Kangaroo Island.
The club prides itself on the level and variety of activities it offers its members.
Guest speakers during 2014 spoke on subjects as diverse as ‘crops of the early settlement’, ‘nine weeks of hell on the Kokoda Trail’, ‘gambling awareness’, ‘one RAN officer’s role in patrolling the Arabian Gulf’, ‘an Australian experience in early space exploration’, ‘recycling in the Shoalhaven’ and ‘roses and rose culture.’
Activities during the year included several group dining events, a bus trip to Mogo Zoo and the Eurobodalla Botanic Gardens, a group exploration of Sussex Inlet, a lunchtime cruise on the Clyde River, a four-day bus tour to the Blue Mountains, twilight bowls and barbecue, tenpin bowls (and lunch), and in December, a memorable Christmas dinner.
It is through participation in these meetings and activities that members develop the friendships which are the principal objectives of Probus.
