The new Big Fish Little Fish initiative has taken off, with 65 surf club members taking part in a host of activities on and off the beach.

A group of teenagers, including Ava Del Tufo, started the peer mentoring program that she said offers benefits for kids aged eight to 18.

“Big Fish Little Fish is a youth initoative program that consists of peer mentoring and game nights in the Mollymook Surf Club,” she said.

“It was started by teenagers that felt that there was a gap in the surf club for young adults and wanted to make a change.

“It also means that kids remain motivated and stay into the club and become patrolling members.”

Ava said, while living in the United States, she took part in a similar program run by her swim club.

“It was extremely beneficial,” she said.

Open only to surf club members, the program consists of fun game nights and team building games on the beach.

The next get together will be at the surf club on March 14 and Ava has requested that parents of members contact her on 0435 103 322 if their children are interested in attending.

“So far over 65 kids have joined and it is a great way to promote membership and belonging in the surf club,” she said.

“It is free and dinner is provided.”

Participants need to bring their swimmers and a change of clothes.
