The event will run from May 17 to May 20 and some of the state’s best golfers will battle it out in the woman’s, the men’s and the team competition.

This is the first time the club has hosted the championships. They volunteered after hosting a number of successful competitions.

“There was interest from Golf NSW in us hosting the championships after our first pro-am event in 2013,”said Barry West, director of golf at Mollymook Golf Club.

While people will be coming from all over the state, it is expected that the local competition will be strong.

“We should have around 10 Mollymook players competing.” Barry said.

The players will be between the ages of 30 -54 and meet the handicap requirement of 9.4.

Men will play 54 holes over three days, while the woman will play 36 holes over two days.

The final entry will not be available until just before the event, however it is expected that the 2014 women’s winner, Gemma Dooley of Moore Park will be back to defend her title, and the men will be watching out for previous winner, Andrew Tharle from the Royal Canberra Gold Club.

The Shoalhaven City Council have been pushing for more events such as this one over the past four years, to showcase all the region has to offer as a holiday destination.

“I am delighted to see the prestigious Mid –Amateur Championships being played at Mollymook,” said Mayor, Joanna Gash.

“We are estimating the event will bring around $100 000 dollars to the Mollymook area,” said Shoalhaven Council Event Manager, Emire Farrar.

Mollymook’s run of big sporting events will continue, with the Mollymook Surf Club hosting the NSW IRB titles in June.
