The course is the only one in NSW among the 12 Australian nominees listed in the World Golf Awards.
Mollymook Golf Club’s director of golf, Barry West, said the nomination was an honour as the course was listed in the same category as the Royal Melbourne, the National Golf Club and the Victorian Golf Club, which had all hosted major events on the world circuit.
“We’re quite fortunate to be nominated,” he said.
“But if there is an underdog, then we’re probably it.”
Anyone can vote in the awards on www.worldgolfawards.com, but people can vote only once for each email address, and Mr West said he was hoping to get the entire NSW golfing community behind the course.
News of the nomination comes on the back of the course recently being a finalist in Australian seniors tournament of the year for the 2014 NSW Senior PGA Championship Pro-Am, and Mr West being nominated at Australian golf professional of the year.
The Hilltop course also hosted the Srixon NSW Mid-Amateur Championships last week, and on the weekend the final round of the club’s men’s championship.
The men’s club championship was won by Tom Punnett with a 72-hole total of 320 with defending champion, Nick Heath finishing second on a count back from Graham Beasley with 322.
Tom shot two-over par on the front nine to move into the outright lead but had only a slender two-shot lead over the closing holes.
Nick Heath double bogeyed the 17th and Graham Beasley birdied 16 but then both Tom and Graham finished bogey, bogey giving Tom a two-shot victory.
Phil Binns won the A Grade nett by a massive 10 shots with 296.
Phil also won the president’s trophy for the championship with the best overall nett score.
B Grade was a great contest as both Dale Thompson and Michael Langham finished tied on 370.
They had to endure a couple more holes in a sudden death playoff with Michael winning outright on the second playoff hole.
Dillon Granger and Frank Schnoor finished six shots further back on 376.
Dillon won the B Grade nett by eight shots with a 304 total.
In C Grade, Keith Stephens started with a four-shot lead and cruised to victory on 400 gross with Mike Bulbert finishing five shots further back in second place on 405.
Stuart Tidbury finished third on 407.
Scott Crowley won the C Grade nett by eight shots on 310 with Rod Phelps second on 318.
Well done to all players who competed in the championships with some tough conditions over the four rounds.
