It was a celebration for all ages, when preschool children met up with councillors and the general public to mark the occasion.
Since opening its doors last year, 140 000 people have come through the building, 120 000 items have been borrowed, there are 13 000 new members and 10 000 people have logged into the free wifi.
There has also been the addition of a cafe this year, which has highlighted the importance of the centre as a community hub for both the locals and visitors to the area.
The local indoor bowling club, who use the Civic Centre for their competitions, were represented at the celebration this morning.
“We love this Venue. It has a lovely morning view over the ocean, it is perfect for us,” said Kay Bryant, a member of the Indoor Bowls Club.
Children from a local preschool enjoyed story time prior to the morning tea festivities.
Carla DeCasti from the library treated them to an appropriate reading of the book, Crispen’s Birthday Surprise, before they were allowed to have their share of the centre’s birthday cake.
Grown ups marked the occasion with a morning tea of their own, and a special screening of the documentary, Fabulous Fashionistas.
Councillor Alan Baptist marked the occasion with a speech in which he thanked members of the community who had contributed to the success of the revamped centre.
