The Bushpigs have been running rampant throughout the season, often putting 80 points or more on their opponents, and when they crossed for their opening try just two minutes unto Saturday’s game at Frogs Holla it looked like another whitewash might by on the way.
But that did not account for the determination of the Milton outfit, which went on the attack just minutes later before a penalty was awarded and duly converted, making the score 7-3 in Jindabyne’s favour.
With the play more even, both sides battled to keep control of the ball, although the visitors seemed to have the edge, but several attacking raids were snuffed out by solid defence.
The Bushpigs finally broke the deadlock when one of their layers burrowed over from close range to score a try, but controversy erupted when the referee heard someone swearing at him and sent off Simon Davies, who protested him innocence.
Supporters on the sideline voiced their opinions, and the referee appeared to make an obscene hand gesture to them.
When the supporters reacted with more comments players from both sides had to ask them to calm down.
Once the scoring deadlock was broken speedy Jindabyne player Dave Akkersdyk raced down the sideline to score in the corner and make the score 17-3, where it remained at the break.
Davies returned to the field late in the first half, and he opened the scoring in the second half with a try from close range, with the conversion making the difference just a converted try at 17-10.
Milton was back on the attack shortly after, and its players were again fouled when a strong attacking more was mounting.
The resulting penalty was converted, putting Milton just four points behind at 17-13 and seeming to have the momentum.
However the Platypi could not quite deliver the knockout punch.
Tempers frayed several times in the closing minutes as Milton tried desperately to score and Jindabyne clung grimly to a narrow lead, although the tension eased when the Bushpigs crossed a few minutes before the end, leading to the final score of 22-13.
