The cheque came from the Milton Ulladulla Uniting Church, who raised funds through their monthly cake stall.
Thank you to those who supported the cake stall and to those who cook the lovely cakes.
The money will assist in hiring a bus to take Parkinson’s disease sufferers and their carers to a forum to be held at Bomaderry Bowling Club on September 2.
The aim of this event is to raise awareness of the impact of Parkinson’s and associated neurological conditions on the quality of life of people and carers dealing with this condition.
The event is open to all health professionals, aged care health workers, people with Parkinson’s and their carers as well as the general public.
Exercise is an important aspect of living with and managing Parkinsons.
There is a small exercise group from Ulladulla, who meet in the Catholic hall.
They meet weekly to go through a range of exercises that not only exercise muscles, but also challenge coordination and mental facility.
In the process there is a lot of laughter.
The exercise classes are not closed to only Parkinsons people and their carers, but others are welcome.
An additional support group meets each month.
This support group is especially for the Carers, and provides a time and place where carers are free to discuss the challenges and difficulties of being a carer.
As with all support groups, it is good to feel that one isn’t alone in facing such major changes for family and friendship relationships.
At the August meeting, Karen Denny, from Shoalhaven City Council attended the meeting to explain the changes to the community care system and provide an update on how the Aged Care Gateway is operating.
This is the new service system that people may need to access at some point when they require additional support services to enable them to remain living at home. Karen’s information was of great interest to all present, not just the PD folk. We were very grateful that Karen gave us so much of her time in explaining the new system.
To distinguish the Milton-Ulladulla group from the Shoalhaven Shakers it was decided to adopt the nickname of the Milton Ulladulla Movers with contact email address: mupsgroup@yahoo.com.au
