Emerging rock outfit Mighty Boys are known for their tongue-in-cheek lyrics and have recently penned a “silly” song about Dapto’s famous racetrack.
“Dapto Dreaming” is the first single from the Melbourne band’s upcoming EP Timely Reminders, and has a crack at a Darryl Kerrigan-inspired character and the pups that run the Dapto Dogs track.
Lead singer and writer of the song Baz Travella said their music is meant to get a laugh out of people.
“It’s supposed to be pretty funny even though some of the subject matter’s really grim,” said Travella.
He also said the lyrics weren’t meant to offend residents of the Illawarra suburb or regulars at the race-track.
“We mentioned Dapto because it’s the king of the race-tracks, and the name sounded good,” he said. “We just put different songs to different themes.”
The band’s first release Dole Cheque and Kabana poked fun at all things Australian such as the defunct TV show “Hey Hey it’s Saturday” and the town of Deniliquin.
The band formed in 2012 for what was supposed to be one night for a house party. However the collective of mates comic songs proved a hit with their audience and so they continued the project.
Mighty Boys have previously played at Wollongong’s RAD Bar, with plans tour here again. Timely Reminders should be out this May.
