Last Saturday, several RATS travelled to Batemans Bay to have another go at their 5km parkrun. Most performed extremely well on this fast, flat and very scenic course:
- Steve Grant, 1st outright in 17.21;
- Martin Tomasini, 2nd outright and 1st in his age group (M60-64) in 19.46. This is a course, age group record;
- Cheryl Bellet, 2nd female and 1st in her age group (F45-49) in 24.47. This was a PB for Cheryl and her first time under 25 minutes;
- Jack Robertson, 1st in his age group (M70-74) in 26.52. This is a course, age group record, by 1 second;
- Nicola Rabbett, 2nd in her age group (F50-54) in 27.04 and a season's best time;
- Lauri Perino, 1st in her age group (F55-59) in 28.03.
Shoalhaven King of the Mountain: Sunday, May 22:
Last Sunday, three RATS travelled to Kangaroo Valley for the 25km King of the Mountain run, which goes up and then down Mount Scanzi. All three performed well on an arduous course.
- Gay Shearman, 2.35.38 and 1st in her age group (F50-59);
- Kim Waters, 2.38.08, 1st local and 2nd in her age group (F40-49); and
- Bob White, 3.01.37 and pleased to finish.
Those RATS who remained in the Ulladulla area, headed out to Porters Creek Dam and were thrilled with the improvements to the access road. Different distances were achieved, but all started by running from the T intersection at the top of the hill and heading towards the dam.
Two RATS took a diversion and checked out the Florence Head walking track, which may be an option for a future outing.
A number of RATS were happy with 10km and some did a bit more. Cheryl and Lauri, who are in the early stages of marathon training, returned to the T and then headed in the other direction, uphill towards the Mount Bushwalker car park.
They continued on the Tianjara Fire Trail to a natural rock ledge, which normally gives spectacular views of the coast.
On Sunday the fog and haze blocked the coastal views, but provided a beautiful eerie bush landscape. They returned downhill to the T for about 18.5km. The fog just north of Milton, made for a spectacular orange moon, which was large and low in the sky.
RATS AGM
The Ulladulla RATS held their AGM on Tuesday. The full minutes will be available shortly, but in summary: most office bearers retained their existing positions, with the main changes being, Leanne Harding as vice president and secretary, Phil Yardy in the new position of cycling coordinator and Michael Van as assistant cycling coordinator.
