After 18 weeks of fierce competition it has come down to the final 80 minutes of football at two different grounds this weekend to decide the next step in the qualifying finals of the 2017 Group 7 first grade rugby league competition.

This Saturday at Mick Cronin Oval, last season’s grand finalists Gerringong Lions do battle against the rugged Warilla Lake-South Gorillas in sudden-death circumstances. Gerringong, known for their incisive attack and creating angles will have to be in top form to keep the Gorillas at bay throughout this hectic contest.
Warilla thrive on hard work and the tougher it gets the better they play as their recent form indicates. The Gorillas have a big vigorous pack of forwards and if allowed to run, the game will be quickly decided. Fans had better strap themselves in for a wild ride as the losing team in this game farewells their season.
This Sunday at Ron Costello Oval, catches Shellharbour Sharks up against the Kiama Knights in another thriller. The Knights’ armoury greatly relies upon its speed around the scrum-base with fast inside backs able to score at any given time whereas the Sharks play basic rugby league behind a good mobile pack of forwards.
Huge crowds are expected to attend both grounds on the weekend to catch all the riveting action while first grade minor premiers Jamberoo Superoos await the outcome. Other matches on Saturday include, Shellharbour Sharks and Nowra-Bomaderry Jets in reserve grade, Stingrays and Berry in the under 18s with Jamberoo are up against Shellharbour Sharks in the WTl contest. Supporting games on Sunday include Gerringong Lions versus Kiama Knights in reserve grade, Albion Park and Warilla in the under 18s and Kiama Knights against Stingrays Green in the WTL game.
Both the Bulldogs WLT and under 18s teams will enjoy the week off before playing their major semi-final’s at Kevin Walsh Oval on Sunday, September 3, after claiming their respective minor-premierships.
The WLT claimed top spot after dismantling the Stingrays 90-nil, while the under 18s stole top spot off Albion Park-Oak Flats after they defeated the Stingrays of Shellharbour 42-14 and the Eagles lost 28-14 to the Gorillas.
The final game of the day at Bill Andriske Oval saw reserve grade defeat Stingrays 32-26.
