South Coast MP Shelley Hancock can see “an advantage” in the NSW Government purchasing the former Shoalhaven Anglican School property and opening a second public high school in the area.
Following the backlash against the Anglican Corporation for planning to shut Gumnut Preschool in December 2017 and sell the school land, Mrs Hancock will meet with the Minister for Education
The preschool is currently part of the school’s land, on Croobyar Road, Milton.
“I will be meeting with the Minister for Education regarding the need for another high school in the area in the not too distant future” Mrs Hancock said.
“Where that might be is yet to be determined.
“I personally see an advantage in purchasing the Anglican school site and I will continue to advocate for this option.”
Mrs Hancock said she supported the community’s desire to keep Gumnut Preschool open.
She urged the Anglican Corporation to subdivide the land, making the preschool and former SAS land two separate properties.
“Following inquiries with the council, I have learned that no application to subdivide the land has been made but it is possible,” she said.
“This option should be pursued in the short term.”
