I was appalled and distressed to read of yet another potentially fatal accident 2km north of East Lynne on the Princes Highway.
Seven weeks ago, on 19 February, I spun off the road on this section of the highway on a drying road surface after some light showers and I am aware of several other accidents in this area in the last month. So far it appears only luck has prevented deaths. I certainly feel lucky to be alive.
There appears to be no safe speed on this section of the highway if the road is damp and in drying conditions. I also think that, given the number of accidents in the area, an enquiry is warranted into the road surface in this area. Are there special factors that have made this section of the road exceptionally greasy after rain?
I would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank those members of the public and emergency services who assisted in extracting me from the wreck of my car, rendering immediate medical assistance and conveying me to hospital in Milton.
