Heath Innes Martin, 42, of Lake Tabourie pleaded guilty to recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, with Nowra District Court Judge Philip Mahony sentencing him to two years and eight months’ jail with a non-parole period of 18 months.
Martin also pleaded guilty to two counts of intimidation and destroying property and while convicted no further penalty was imposed.
Court papers said the incident happened at Lake Tabourie on November 17, 2016 where a 34-year-old woman suffered serious burns to her face and upper torso.
The woman suffered burns to 35 per cent of her body including her face where part of the skin melted off.
At the time police described her injuries as serious and likely to cause life long damage.
The court heard the woman sustained serious burns after an argument over a stolen quad-bike.
Police said between 6.40pm and about 7.10pm, Martin attended a Lake Tabourie address where he confronted the woman and her teenage son.
An argument broke out and petrol was thrown at a car on the property, with some of the fuel landing on the woman.
The woman was injured after attempts were made to ignite the car.
She was airlifted to a Sydney hospital in a critical but stable condition.
The court heard Martin attempted to assist the woman and render first aid, before leaving the property.
He was treated at another Lake Tabourie address for burns to his arms before being conveyed to Shoalhaven Hospital for further treatment.
The woman’s son was not physically injured.
