I spent New Year’s Day in the pool with my grand kids. Everyone was slipped, slopped and slapped, and buoyancy vests were worn by the children at all times whilst in the pool area. It is so important that an adult is watching (undistracted) while the kids are splashing about.
The same amount of vigilance should be taken when swimming at our local beaches. There have been a number of drownings in our local waterways in the past and each one is a tragedy.
Please watch your kids, partners, fathers, mothers and extended family when you are out enjoying a riparian retreat by the river or visiting our estuaries and beaches.
More Police
There are plenty of tourists about, people are still on holidays and life’s good, or is it? Over the Christmas, New Year’s period there are extra police patrolling the Shoalhaven to keep you safe and to reduce crime, including property crime and street offences.
These patrols are part of a number of preventative strategies NSW Police are performing to reduce property offences throughout the Shoalhaven.
In order to reduce these offences, Shoalhaven Police require assistance from residents to reduce the likelihood of offences such as thefts from residential yards, carports, garages and thefts from motor vehicles. I have spoken about this before, but during the ‘Festive Season’ with the corresponding influx of holiday makers there are many more targets available for the criminal element
Fires
Obviously, we are having a bit of a heatwave at the moment. I want to remind you about fire awareness in and around the bush land that surrounds nearly all of our towns and villages. There, I just did it.
