Sea pool should stay open
At the reconvened Ordinary Meeting on May 2 the trial opening of Huskisson Sea Pool for the winter season was approved unanimously by the 10 councillors present. Like Huskisson, Ulladulla has a sea pool of the same dimensions, same style constructed by the same company many years ago. The Ulladulla Sea Pool is also located in the middle of town in the most activated strip in the southern Shoalhaven.

The ocean pool in Ulladulla caters for many different groups: swimmers in training, residents with health conditions that choose to swim in salt water for the added buoyancy or because they can't swim in chlorinated water, family groups, tourists and recreational swimmers. Having the Ulladulla Sea Pool open during winter will give those residents who want to start up an ice-bergs swimming group the opportunity to do so in a safe environment.
In the general manager's note on the Notice of Motion for the Huskisson pool trial, he said, it is not unreasonable to assume, with this further extended opening of Huskisson Sea Pool, that members of the Ulladulla community will, likely, request that Ulladulla Sea Pool also be extended.
There isn't a week goes by without someone asking me to have the Ulladulla Sea Pool open for winter. If it is good enough for the residents of Huskisson to trial a winter opening of the sea pool then surely it is good enough for residents of Ulladulla to trial the same.
It is my intention to submit a Notice of Motion to have the Ulladulla Sea Pool opened for winter on a trial basis at the next Strategy and Assets meeting.

Farmers' contradiction
From media reports and discussions it would appear the majority of farmers intend to support Liberal/National Party candidates in the coming election. Climate change has been identified as one of the major issues facing the country and one that is impacting right now on farms and farmers. There appears to be a contradiction where the conservatives are climate change deniers without any effective plan to address the issue and on the other hand, farmers recognise and see the result of more frequent droughts, floods bush fires etc as the result of a changing climate.
Farmers state that they support the conservatives because they represent business This is difficult to understand while the big supermarket chains rip-off dairy farmers along with other food producers and mining licenses are handed out on good agricultural land to the mining industry.

Think of the country
We are constantly being told by all sides of the political spectrum that we are hard done by in one way or another, even if we don't realise it ourselves.
There is always someone to make us think that we are doing it tough and the only way out is to vote for them. One current political hopeful even sprouted off that when we vote we have to be selfish and to just think of ourselves.
Sorry my friend, when I vote I will be looking at the bigger picture and to think of the country. This is not me being noble, just me being realistic in believing that if the country is doing well, then so will I.
We seem to have forgotten how far this country has come and how good we do have it when compared to other places. Even our younger ones don't seem to be too hard done by with their smart phones and games while being ferried to school.
I remember vividly as a child in Darwin having to walk to school through snow drifts with cardboard on my feet. No phone, not even a calculator, although I was lucky enough to have pencil and paper. Yes I am being facetious. Let's not be selfish and instead support policy that will help make this country more environmentally sound, safe and humane for the future.
