Over the past couple of weeks I have become saddened in relation to the number of unlocked vehicles left on the street and in the driveways of our police district.
The reason I know this is because I report on the stealings to the boss every day and I see the statistics.
I have gone on about locking your car doors until my head nearly exploded but it seems that many have not listened to my pleas.
I'm not just talking to those who reside in Nowra. I'm talking to those who live in our beautiful coastal villages.
If you leave your cars unlocked and valuables within you are only providing the environment in which a crook can easily ply his/her trade.
You are helping to inflate the incidents of stealing's and associated offences such as credit card frauds which are easily reduced by locking your doors and removing your valuables.
It's hard to understand why someone would leave their wallet within the unlocked vehicle unless they love lining up at banks and other locations to replace their cards, licences and other lost items.
Let's let common sense prevail.
Remove your valuables and lock the car door.
This will lower the crime rate and give you more time to do the things you want which won't be lining up to replace stolen cards.
As always, in case of an emergency call 000. In non-emergencies call the Policelink on 131 444 or your local police station. To provide anonymous information call Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000. For domestic and family violence information, visit www.police.nsw.gov.au. For Shoalhaven Domestic Violence officers call 4421 9666 or 4421 9665 or email shoaldvlo@police.nsw.gov.au.
Don't forget, cops are tops.
