This week the Ulladulla RATS had good turnouts for the mid-week runs, despite the mornings getting a little darker as we approach June and the shortest day of the year.

The run on Friday, which loops from Mollymook SLSC to Narrawallee inlet, saw a new nomination for the Penguin Award. The Penguin title is bestowed upon the runner who has had the best stack of the year.
On Friday, Georgia was witnessed tripping down Clyde Street, sliding on her belly and finally coming to rest on her back beside the gutter. A bystander described the stack as a very strong contender for the Penguin.
On Sunday, the runners carpooled down to Nelligen to run along The River Road to Shallow Crossing. It is a stunning area protected by its national park status, which was achieved after decades of hard work by local activists and Aboriginal communities striving to preserve the south east forests.
The very thick fog meant not all the beautiful landscapes were visible, however, all runners and walkers enjoyed it. A couple of fishermen looked a bit perplexed to see these keen runners emerge from the fog!
Along the way, we were lucky enough to hear the magnificent calls of lyrebirds. Tilly and Craig ran the full 19 kilometres, while Gay, Nicola, Georgia, Paul, Bob, Steve, Annemaree, Martin, Maree and Fran all walked or ran distances ranging from about six to 15 kilometres. The longer runs were made possible thanks to John and Fran who generously offered to drive a support car.
Have you been thinking about coming for a run? Next Sunday, May 26, is the relay team event. This is a great event for new runners, as well as those young guns looking for a fast and competitive sprint!
For the club relays, runners will be placed into groups to create roughly even teams with each runner completing a 3.1km loop.
There is a warm-up lap of the 3.1km circuit to show all runners the track. During the warm up lap, teams will be created by Martin who has volunteered to organise the event. Please meet at Narrawallee Inlet at 6.30am. All welcome!
