And it has paid dividends for some of the 35 cast members of the musical Evie and the Birdman.
Shelley Young is one new cast member, who was hounded by her daughter Lara, 11, to join.
Lara performed in the Milton Follies Anything Goes junior show earlier this year and loved it so much she wanted to try the all ages production.
So of course, her mother had to audition.
Shelley, will join her daughter Isabella, 13, and niece Tahlia Heycox, 9, as three newcomers set to take centre stage as dancers in a Follies' production.
All three have enjoyed the new experience so far.
"After some convincing I thought, what the heck, let's have a go and we've really enjoyed it," Shelley said.
"Obviously, we're a very, very busy household. But, we've made it work. I'm really looking forward to performing on stage with the three girls. It's a bit of a laugh, because they always think I like to take over."
Each of the girls said they had also enjoyed going to rehearsal with Tahlia surprised by her auntie's skills.
"I never knew you were such a good entertainer," she said.
Lara said the girls would rehearse songs from the show using the soundtrack CD in the car
"We're always singing songs we never stop."
A few of their friends also "probably" had to beg a parent to join, Isabella said.
Shelley was thankful her children did.
"I've met people that I've never even seen before. It's awesome."
Evie and The Birdman director Ruth Myers said the musical was a story of Lester and his best friend Evie, who set off from their small country town to seek fame and fortune in the big city.
"Written by John Field, original Cockroaches member and Wiggles song writer, this modern Australian musical is fun for the whole family," she said.
"We open for one weekend only in November, and rehearsals are in full-swing with our cast of 35, aged from nine to 68."
Evie and The Birdman will be performed for five shows on one weekend only.
Shows will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 7pm; Friday, November 15 at 7pm; Saturday, November 16 at 2pm and 8pm; and Sunday, November 17 at 2pm.
All shows will be performed at the Milton Theatre. Tickets $25 for adults, $20 for concession. Visit www.trybooking.com.
