Young bush poets are encouraged to enter the Ruth Davis Memorial Junior Poetry Speaking Competition at the 151st Milton Show.
Australia has a rich poetic tradition which is highlighted by this Junior Poetry competition at the Milton Show, organiser Jon Travers said.
"All you young, aspiring competitors can brush up your poetic skills in front of a mirror, at the dinner table, playground, library or to the endless sea and sky," he said.
The competition begins at 9.30am at the Marquee by the JNA Thomson Bar on Saturday, March 7.
There is no entry fee for junior poets aged 13 years and younger. First place wins $50, second $30 and third $20.
All entrants will receive a book prize and a ribbon.
Mr Travers hopes to see another diverse group of junior poets like last year's entrants.
"At the 150th anniversary Milton Show last year we saw a wonderful, diverse group of young performers who entertained the audience with their selection of poems, humour and outstanding ability. Three of the entrants presented their own poems, a great testament to their writing ability"
"It is gratifying to see that the love of poetry and spoken verse is being fostered in the homes and schools of our community."
