The first part of the run from Milton to Clyde Ridge Road is 15.5 kilometres, mainly uphill, and the second part is 10.5 kilometres, mostly downhill.
Those that did not want to run the entire 26 kilometres, started at Clyde Ridge Road (Pigeon House turnoff) for the final 10.5 kilometres.
Those completing the whole course (on foot) received a coveted Challenge Survivor Certificate - well worth the effort.
Thanks go to John Hepburn and Michael van Ewijk for providing vehicle back up, photography services and a delicious Dutch almond Slice.
Thanks also to the many friends and family who provided food, transport and vital encouragement and support.
After the run, the Ulladulla RATS and friends, all shared bunch and enjoyed the club's annual presentation.
There were many humorous and also, serious awards.
Termeil Xmas Challenge Survivor Certificates:
This year five women and only two men covered the entire 26 kilometres: Aimee Randall, Rose Robinson, Lauri Perino, Steve Grant, Kim Waters, Dion Carter and Kylie Creech.
Maree Randall received an honourable mention for covering most of the course, except for a short stint in the support car, having only recently returned to running after shoulder surgery.
Rambunctious RAT Trophy: 5.5 kilometre Handicap Series - Ken Saunders.
Dignified RAT Trophy: 10 kilometre Handicap Series - Ian Robinson.
Woos of the Year Certificates: For the first time in RATS’ history, we had a quintuple award for Woos of the Year - Wendy Smith, Max Hosgood, Glenn Wood, Don Miller and Ken Saunders.
Kevin Maxwell Memorial Mile Trophy: Aimee Randall and Jake Myors.
Penguin of the Year Certificate: Martin Tomasini.
Junior RAT of the Year Certificate: Jono Schaap.
RAT of the Year Certificate: Steve Grant.
The Dapper RAT Award Certificate: Max Hosgood.
Quote of the Year Certificate: Glenn Wood.
EnduroRAT Certificate: Nicole Robinson.
Dicky Knee Award Certificate: Aimee Randall.
The Magellan Award Certificate: Maree Randall and Bev Clothier.
Golden RAT Trophy: Lauri Perino
The Herman Munster Award Certificate: Steve Grant.
“It is a privilege to be part of such an inclusive club that welcomes runners and triathletes of ALL standards,” club president Lauri Perino said after the awards.
“As a club, we celebrate the achievements of all our RATS - regardless of their level of ability.
“For those that don’t know, this wasn’t always the case – originally, the RATS was a small group of blokes whose main aim was to bury any visitor who foolishly thought they might like a pleasant Sunday run – and I must say, that this welcome change, is due largely, to the efforts of one very inspiring RAT – Ken Saunders.
“Unfortunately, Ken is leaving us almost immediately - but he will be back in February so that we can give him a proper farewell. Don't forget to let Maree know if you can attend. In the meantime, have a safe and happy Christmas.”
LAST Sunday morning early, a fine gathering of RATS left Macca's for a favourite RAT'S run - out to the end of Windward Way and back, via Slaughterhouse Road.
The conditions were perfect and even tiredness and a little too much celebrating in the Christmas spirit could not stop at least one RAT from finishing the course - very slowly indeed.
Coffee and slice at Macca's after was enjoyed by all.
NEXT Sunday is Damo’s Xmas Challenge.
Please meet at Casuarina Place, Burrill Lake at 6.15am, for a 6.30am start.
This is a scenic and some-what hilly 15 kilometre run around Burrill Lake, with a 150 metre swim across the lake to finish.
A boat is provided for safety and for those who prefer to stay dry.
The RATS will provide the food for a breakfast barbecue after at Damo's. Many thanks to Damo and his family for providing the venue, boat and safety marshals.
DON’T let an opportunity go by to get your name in the Times - get your results to Martin Tomasini at your earliest opportunity.
