“I wasn’t surprised by the outcome,” she told the Times.
“Having the Labor Party standing in Ward 3 also took a slice of the vote.”
She said the long-term association of Team Gash with the Liberal Party did not help either.
“It was the same dissatisfaction you saw in the federal election and we’re seeing the same at state level too, with the council amalgamations and the banning of greyhound racing.”
“I was on pre-poll for two weeks and there was a sense people were turning from Team Gash,” she said.
There was also a lack of clarity about who was standing, she said. “Brochures were not delivered, so people were unaware of who was standing.”
Cr White said the lack of options in the mayoral contest also affected Team Gash’s result.
“People wanted change,” she said.
She said she looked forward to working in a more collaborative council than that seen in the past four years.
At the current count Ward 3 councillors will be Patricia White (Team Gash), Mark Kitchener (Shoalhaven Independents Group), Bob Proudfoot (Shoalhaven Independents Group) and Kaye Gartner (Greens).
