Paul Conrad Carlson and Max Eric Carlson, formerly of Fishermans Paradise, faced Moruya Local Court on Friday, October 7, and both pleaded guilty to one count of high-range drink driving.
Police documents stated the 55- and 24-year-old were travelling along the Princes Highway at Bodalla at about 2.30pm on August 7 when members of the public reported a van driving erratically.
“It veered completely onto the incorrect side of the highway and almost collided with the guard rail near the Tuross River bridge,” police said.
One witness reported the Mazda to police after narrowly avoiding a rear-end collision.
Police said Paul Carlson was driving the vehicle when police pulled them over near the Donnellys Road intersection in Moruya.
However, police said witnesses gave evidence that the son had earlier been driving the vehicle, before pulling over and switching with his father.
Paul Carlson returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.212, more than four times the legal limit.
Max returned a reading of 0.288, more than five times the legal limit.
Magistrate Doug Dick fined Paul Carlson $2000 and handed him a 200-hour community service order.
Max Carlson was fined $1000 and ordered to perform 150 hours community service.
Both men were disqualified from driving for six months.
