NSW RFS Shoalhaven has committed almost $1.2 million for infrastructure upgrades at Kioloa and Kangaroo Valley stations.
The upgrades include the addition of new tanker bays, meeting rooms and improved kitchen and toilet facilities, and refurbishment of existing facilities. It is expected that both projects will be completed by the end of the year.
In the case of Kangaroo Valley, up until now, members have been required to use the public amenities next door.
NSWRFS Superintendent Mark Williams said both projects were a “critical part” of their operational readiness and were “certainly needed”.
“Our members are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week ready to assist in their communities whenever it’s needed,” Supt Williams said.
“Providing state of the art facilities such as these is what our members both need and deserve. It’s the least we can do for them.”
RFS volunteers in the Shoalhaven have attended more than 1,500 incidents in the last 12 months committing over 15,000 hours of their time
The RFS is continuing to provide significant investment for infrastructure upgrades locally with more than $5.6 million being spent since 2014.
“None of this would be possible if it wasn’t for the incredible support from both the state and local governments,” Supt Williams said.
