The running Rats were presented with a truly beautiful morning on Sunday, September 9, with the sun breaking through the clouds but still with a coolness in the air.

The group met at the corner of the Princes Highway and Porters Creek Dam road at 6.30am and car pooled to the top of the escarpment. Once we had left the cars we faced a challenging warm-up hill and then some really comfortable dirt track running out to Porters Creek Dam. The recent little bit of rain seemed to have freshened both the track and the bush plants and we noticed the first of the wattle flowers blooming in their beautiful yellow.
Out at the dam the critical shortage of rain was evident with the water at a very low level. Once we had regrouped we were off back to the start to complete the run and a total distance for most of us of just under 12km. Thanks to Dukes at Milton for the great coffee and cake.
It is always great to have guest runners with us and we always welcome their conversation on the runs (particularly as it means the local runners can take time out to breathe!).
For the runners participating in the Blackmores Running Festival next weekend in Sydney it is now time to wind back from their 16-week training program and taper through the next week.
For another couple of our runners the 24km run on Sunday was part of their continuing program leading up to the Queenstown NZ marathon.
Good Luck to all those competing in both the half (21.5km) and full marathon (42km) in Sydney next weekend and don’t forget to take in the views on the way round.
Don’t forget to check out our website ulladullarats.com. Next Sunday’s run will start at McDonalds at 6.30am.
