The Ulladulla RATS club was split in two last weekend. While some of our members stayed at home to run on home turf others headed away for the weekend to participate in the Canberra Running Festival.

Five of our members participated in the 5km and 10km event on the Saturday in fabulous cool running conditions. Marty and Laurie went out hard in the 5km (walking) event and both finished comfortably with Wendy coming in with a great running time of 27.21 and Mike with an equipment malfunction not far behind. We were excited to see Cheryl back in form with a creditable 10km time and a great comment "how much fun was that ... I'd forgotten how much I love running!"
On Sunday, three of our runners competed in the gruelling marathon race covering a distance of 42km. Our speed demon Tilly Fisher finished the race in 3 hrs 18 mins and still looked so strong at the end and with almost a smile on her face. With that time she placed second in her age group and the Rats stand unanimously in awe of her achievement.
Both Craig and David were amazing in their runs, both finishing strong and determined. They deserve real applause for their efforts which saw times of 4.08.51 and 5.04.17 respectively.
Nicole Rattenbury was outstanding in her 50km ultramarathon race which started before most of us were out of bed! She ran the 50km with an average pace of 6mins 28 secs in a total time of 5.23.44 finishing 3rd in her female 50-59 age group. It was another amazing result and demonstrates her great form as she prepares for her full ultramarathon event shortly.
The half marathon event was run by Maree Randall, Nicola Rabbett, Clive and Liz Grist. Great running saw Maree finish 13th in her age group F60-69 with a time of 2.15.32 while Nicola was delighted to see the finish line with a time of 1.53.56. Clive, as always, pulled out a great run with a 1.48.28 finish with Liz and her fabulous finishing smile shortly behind with a 2.03.36.
With the races over the RATs group, true to form, made the most of the great food and coffee on offer in Canberra and celebrated a brilliant, fun weekend together.
The remainder of the runners back on the coast ran distances up to 14km leaving town and heading south for a loop back to Mavericks for coffee.
Congratulations also goes to Coby Muir who came 3rd in his age group at the recent Wollongong Tri Sprint distance with a personal best time in a very tough field of competitors.
