Many were attending for the first time and the families were impressed with the facilities and hospitality of the club as well as the beauty of our area.
On Friday the 12, 14 and 16 years singles and doubles events began with tournament director Karen Muller at the helm, continuing on Saturday. Despite some gusty winds on Sunday, making things a bit tricky, the semi-finals and finals were played in great spirit in all events.
Local club members gained valuable experience against stiff opposition with 16-year-old Natasha Phillips-Edgar winning the doubles event and taking the runner-up trophy in the singles. Brock Pearse also did well by winning the 16 years boys consolation final and taking home the runner-up trophy in the doubles.
Keitara Matthews played well to win a marathon two-hour match on Saturday and her brother Tyrone won his first round but was closely beaten in a long match on Saturday. He went on to win his next match in the consolation event.
Rylan O'Sullivan won his first round but then came up against the 3rd seeded player. Isaiah Lewis also played well but came up against some tough competitors.
These events require a lot of work so as always thanks to the volunteers for ensuring this was such a successful weekend. Your help with forward planning, cooking, setting up, supervising matches, preparing and serving food and cleaning up is very much appreciated.
