Ulladulla's Salvation Army coordinator, Stephen Dunn, said the organisation expects to see the greatest need in its 140-year history.
"The COVID-19 crisis has financially crippled many Australians and it will take months to see the real impact it will have," he said.
"The Salvos are going digital this year and it's easier than ever to volunteer your time and help raise money for those in need.
"We are asking our local community to partner with us to provide the critical care needed as we face these challenging times and we know when the chips are down, Aussies come together and do what they can to give hope, this is no more important than now.
"In past years the Salvation Army has managed to raise over $20,000 in the Shoalhaven alone. The money raised all stays within the Shoalhaven and helps the Salvos run its recovery programs for people suffering from addictions, emergency relief for victims in times of crisis, financial counselling for families in poverty or accommodation support for victims of abuse and homeless people.
The Ulladulla based family store was closed four weeks ago which is hurting the Salvos' bottom line.
Proceeds from the Ulladulla based store flows straight back into the community. It could be a while before the store can re-open as the health of the volunteers needs to be maintained.
