Kane Weeks from the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) said new boardwalks and a platform at the end of the track will reward hikers with 360-degree views over the spectacular Budawang Ranges.

"The track has always been popular because it is remote and takes dedicated walkers into the heart of Morton National Park, into the wilderness," Mr Weeks said.

"Over the last 18 months more than $400,000 has been invested into making this walk much more accessible.

"The flat, raised boardwalk means it's now easier for families or less experienced bushwalkers to attempt the hike."

Help from above was needed to complete the work.

"NPWS staff and local contractors working on the track were helped by helicopter, lifting bags of heavy materials and equipment onto the track," Mr Weeks said.

"As well as providing a flat, stable track, the raised boardwalk also helps to protect the park's natural values by taking walkers off fragile swamp heathland."

The upgrade is aimed at making the experience better all round for the walkers.

"The entire visitor experience is now much better thanks to an extension and upgrade to the carpark, new picnic facilities and a new toilet," Mr Weeks said.

"We want to welcome hikers back and show them how the bush and the track have improved since the bushfires.

"We also want first-time visitors to see the upgraded track as a 'must-do' experience and venture into one of the south coast's largest national parks."

This project is part of the biggest infrastructure investment in NSW national parks history, delivering $450 million of priority works that benefit the community and boost nature-based tourism across the state.
