With the AFL ground being out of action for the month of February both senior and junior Dockers will make their home the Lighthouse Oval for the next week, a reminder that the club returns to Ulladulla Sports Park as a whole on the Thursday, March 2.
Training starts at 5pm and finishes at 6.30pm.
The club is looking to bring some new players into its under 17 fold and welcomes anybody who wants to come along to get there and join in.
If you are finding that you have physically or mentally grown out of the sport you are playing now, come on down and give it a go!
Under 17s is for boys who will turn 17 this year, but if you are 17 now you can join the seniors who train at 6pm onwards.
Looking back on 2016, a lot of things could have been done better, but since then a lot of things have been put into place for the upcoming season.
John “JD” Dyball has been installed as coach and is hoping to attract some new players to the club.
JD’s experience speaks for itself with several senior and junior finals campaigns and a few grand final medals hanging around.
He also wants to take the team in a new direction of play which will be high in skill, high movement of the ball and mixed with that old style of grunt and hardness!
So any rugby league, union or soccer player who just wants to “give AFL a go” get along tomorrow afternoon to the Lighthouse at 5pm and have a crack!
“We would love some of the players from other codes to come down and show our boys how to tackle with menace,” JD said.
He added: “So many boys are so multi-talented sportsmen and when they try other sports they really can make a difference - if they just give it a go!”
Last year when the rugby league boys came over to play for the Dockers they convincingly beat every team they played, including the eventual competition winners the Bay Seahawks.
It’s always good to beat the Bay Seahawks!
On the back of the new excitement around the 17s, a few dads have thrown their support around the team, so this year should see the team more structured organised and resourced.
The club is also hoping to make more use of the Kellam’s player bus to get the players to the games and back, making a great experience on game day.
If you need to know any other details around the under 17s call JD on 0411 226 086 anytime.
The club is looking forward to a very exciting year for the Ulladulla Dockers.
