Following heavy rain a large rock close to the summit has moved and is now unstable, said National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) area manager Neale Watson.
“Public safety is paramount and the site will be closed until it can be made safe,” he said.
“Pigeon House Mountain Didthul walking tack is one of the best walks on the south coast and NPWS is working to get the track re-opened as soon as possible.”
Morton National Park continues to be open with Mr Watson warning visitors to be aware.
“Morton National Park is open all year round however, from time to time roads and trails need to be closed due to adverse weather conditions or fire danger,” he said.
“Visitors should take notice of directional signs used to close the track, which protect the safety of park visitors.”
To get up-to-date information on the closures and local conditions visitors are advised to check NPWS Alerts before visiting Morton National Park.
