More rain, more onshore wind, more disjointed swells equals more aggravation for surfers this week, with another broken promise of clean waves from those web forecast sites. Frustration sets in when we receive these east swells that have no definition or significant period in the swell. The only refuge is beaches and after a few straight days of battling choppy surf the thrill starts to leave the body. Tomorrow we should see a shift in radius of the waves to the south and we should be in for a fun run for a few days which will make us all super dooper happy
After combating the wild waves at Narrawallee last Sunday Mick Malmo walked away feeling a little undernourished or hungry for more waves. He didn't have to travel too far until he found a full buffet of surf to satisfy that stomach rumble at Molly. The north end turned on a super fun right-hander which had manifested because of the tons of sand constantly being chewed up and spewed out like a pigeon feeding its young from the normally passive creek which turned into some torrential river. Mick ran down the hill and quickly ripped into three rides before he even made it all the way out the back where he continued.
One of the greatest comebacks in sport let alone surfing was displayed on the weekend when we saw Owen Wright take out the Quiky pro in epic conditions at Snapper rocks, he beat his good mate Matt Wilkinson in long right-handers where the two buddies put on a searing display of surfing, this time last year Owen who suffered major head trauma from a serious wipe out at pipeline couldn't even order himself some lunch let alone be allowed to surf waves by himself such the extent of his injury, to come back from learning to walk, swim and then progress to a soft board only four months ago shows the outrageous will, strength and character, in my opinion this is one of the best wins ever seen on the pro tour even eclipsing the return of Mick Fanning at J Bay last year
