The club was chosen as one of three to be partners in the Shoalhaven City Council Report Illegal Dumping (RID) Community Champions program.
RID Community Champions is an educational program that aims to prevent illegal rubbish dumping by motivating and educating the community at a grassroots level.
The club with the most effective campaign will be announced on December 13 and rewarded with equipment to the value of $5000.
Monica Mudge and Katrina Walsh have been helping coordinate the effort and come up with a campaign.
“We’re going to promote the RID campaign through Facebook and social media,” Monica said.
“We’ll be encouraging members to take selfies with rubbish from the beach and tag them.”
Monica said the surf club is also in negotiation with council to get beach flags promoting the campaign and information on the ATVs.
“Obviously we’re very committed to keeping our beaches clean and our wildlife safe so we really hope the community gets on board,” Monica said.
Mollymook Surf Club is up against the Shoalhaven Mariners Baseball Association, Bay and Basin Cricket Club and Berry Junior Touch Football Club.
