A HELICOPTER plucked a father and daughter from rocks off North Narrawallee beach on Friday afternoon as big seas raged around them.
The Milton man and his nine-year-old daughter were paddling their surf boards near Narrawallee Inlet, but were swept out by the outgoing current shortly after 3pm as the tide fell.
They managed to scramble onto a rocky outcrop 20 to 30 metres off shore, but because of the strong outgoing current and rough seas they were unable to get back in.
However the man’s son was able to paddle back to the shore and raised the alarm.
Two off-duty Australian Lifeguard Services members, Adrian Wright and Ken Walsh, went to the aid of the pair on the rocks.
Mt Wright paddled out to the rocky outcrop to check they were okay, and it was decided the best way to get them off the rocks was by helicopter.
The Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter arrived and dropped off a crew member to check on the pair, before returning to picked them up from the rocks, carrying them to a place where they could be checked over by paramedics.
The man and his daughter were both uninjured.
The man thanked the rescue personnel who attended to him and his daughter.
“It was really good they were able to come and get us,” said the man, who did not want to be identified.
Police later praised the boy who raised the alarm as a hero, saying he played a vital role in ensuring his father and younger sister were rescued.
