Plenty caught in October competition

Jim (Finno) Finnegan, grandson Sam and deckie Peter Stanton, fishing out of Finno’s boat, all weighed in respectable catches of flathead and snapper.

Fishing nearby was club president Warren Craft and son Dave.  It was good to see Warren put a nice catch of snapper and flathead on the scales, after being slowed up with a shoulder injury and then, top that off, a severe back injury. 

Grant Nash bagged out with a fabulous catch of flathead which gave him top weight for the weekend. 

The bag limit is dropping from 20 per day to 10 in November, so fishos may have to target other species to try for the top weight prize.

Fred Eyley decided to leave the bait alone and throw a few lures around, which was a first for Fred, but he managed to land a couple of two kilogram-plus snapper - that put a smile on his face.

His deckie, Bob Graham did well on bait-landing a huge beat the board morwong, backed up with a few nice flatties.

Tim O’Brien surprised all by landing a flathead, which measured 85 centimetres and weighed over 4.250 kilograms on light gear. 

Tim got the Tutty award for his effort.

There are plenty of fish about at the moment, 54 metres seems to be the preferred depth and, with warmer waters on the way, it can only get better.

The next competition has been changed back to November 1 and 2.

Results are as follows:

Heaviest catch:  Grant Nash, 8.920 kilograms

Juniors:  Sam Finnegan, 1.350 kilograms

Secret weight:  Peter Stanton, 0.750 kilograms

Tutty Award:  Tim O’Brien, 4.250-plus kilograms

Thanks to sponsors Mollymook Bowling Club and Early Bait and Tackle for their continued support and, also to the members, for continuing to donate their excess fish to the greatest fish raffle on the South Coast, held in the club at 4pm, on the Sunday of the first weekend of the month.

MUBC FISHING Club’s prawn/picnic day was held last Sunday. There were quite a few fish to be weighed in as well. 

Plenty of flathead and an assortment of other species including trevally, bream, morwong, snapper, wrasse and tailor had been caught.

Even a flounder, which was the fish of the month, made the scales. Thank you to members who donated something for raffle prizes on the day. 

In November there will be two weigh-ins, on Sunday, November 16 and Sunday, November 30, which will be the last for the year.
