Phillip Thurston has pieced together a short documentary about his time photographing the whale migration in Tonga.
He was invited on the Whales Underwater photography trip by Australian photographer, Darren Jew after meeting him at a photography event hosted by Canon and National Geographic last year.
He spent three weeks with the whales, swimming alongside them at every opportunity.
“It was the most beautiful experience you could ever have,” Phil said.
He said despite spending most of his life in the ocean, swimming with the whales and photographing them up close was a life changing experience.
“Being a travelling ocean photographer, over time I’ve realised that photography has a beautiful way of connecting people and places,” Phil said.
