Ryan Foster’s family was dealt a devastating blow when his body was located at the bottom of a cliff at the Careel Headland Reserve in Sydney on September 17.
The Manyana family are facing a huge funeral bill and family friend Belinda Murphy could not sit back and watch them struggle.
From her Sydney home she has created a Go Fund Me page to help cover the funeral cost, which will involve transporting Ryan’s body back to Ulladulla, and to help his younger siblings.
The family has faced a tough year and Belinda wanted to help cover both the funeral and Christmas for the family.
“I thought it would be a good idea to try and have their rent paid until January,” Belinda said.
So far the page has raised more than $8000. You can find it at www.gofundme.com/2pz9znf8
Belinda has known the family for more than 35 years and said she will remember Ryan as adventurous and always living life in the fast lane.
Ryan was originally from the Ulladulla area however had been living with his uncle in Sydney for a few years.
“He was well-known by the locals up here,” Belinda said. “He would always go and surf in dangerous places.
“It was devastating to hear he had died. We had no warning. Nothing.”
His funeral will be held today at the Mollymook Surf Club from 11am.
Police are investigating Ryan’s death. Manly police say Ryan was with two men shortly before he died. They have spoken to one and would like to speak to the other.
